Step 4: Take a Road Test
Vehicle Requirements
- Be at least 16 years old
- Hold a valid instruction permit for 6+ months
- Have no at-fault crashes, moving violations, or drug/alcohol convictions in the past 6 months
Schedule Your Driving Test
Before you can take the driving skills test, you must complete a minimum of 50 hours of supervised driving practice.

Bring These to Your Test
- Parent/guardian (to sign forms)
- Instruction permit
- Proof of identity & residency
- Completed driving log – RoadReady app or

Application for Driving Privileges or ID Card
- A vehicle with valid registration and insurance (no rentals)
During the Skills Test
What Happens
- Examiner will inspect your vehicle
- You’ll be graded on driving performance
- Automatic failure for serious violations (e.g., speeding, failure to yield)
If You Fail
- You’ll get feedback on what went wrong
- You may need to wait up to 30 days to retest
