Once you’ve completed driver education and practiced with your instruction permit, you’re ready for the road test. Schedule your driving skills test at a DMV office near you.

Step 4: Take a Road Test

Vehicle Requirements
  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Hold a valid instruction permit for 6+ months
  • Have no at-fault crashes, moving violations, or drug/alcohol convictions in the past 6 months
Schedule Your Driving Test

Before you can take the driving skills test, you must complete a minimum of 50 hours of supervised driving practice.

What Happens
  • Examiner will inspect your vehicle
  • You’ll be graded on driving performance
  • Automatic failure for serious violations (e.g., speeding, failure to yield)
If You Fail
  • You’ll get feedback on what went wrong
  • You may need to wait up to 30 days to retest
