Organization Plates

Plates show the FCC-issued call sign of a licensed radio amateur operator.

• These plates must be custom-ordered using the Application (SP 7). You may order in-person, by mail or by fax.
• The annual fee is waived if operator agrees to assist during emergencies. Submit the Waiver Application (SP 50) with your renewal.

Decorated Peace Officer Qualifications

Applicants who meet the following qualifications may obtain Peace Officer plates for up to two vehicles:

1. A current or former peace officer who has received one or more of the following medals, or the equivalent thereof, for his or her service as a peace officer:
   1. The Medal of Honor;
   2. The Purple Heart;
   3. The Medal of Valor;
   4. The Lifesaving Medal;
   5. The Meritorious Service Medal;
   6. The Distinguished Service Medal; or
2. A family member of a person who was:
   1. Killed in the line of duty while serving as a peace officer; and
   2. Awarded posthumously the Medal of Honor, or the equivalent thereof, for his or her actions as a peace officer.

$25 of the initial fee and $20 of the annual renewal supports the Boy Scout Council in the area where the vehicle is registered:

• Las Vegas Area Council
• Nevada Area Council

• You must submit proof of rank as listed on the Application (SP 95)

Available for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles that are wholly powered by an electric motor. Hybrids do not qualify.

Fees listed include the $33 Basic Registration Fee for your vehicle. These fees, less the specialty plate costs, fund road construction through the State Highway Fund. See 2019 Senate Bill 181 for more information.

Governmental Services Taxes and miscellaneous fees are charged in addition to the fees listed here.

Professional Firefighter Qualifications

You must show reasonable proof of identity and documentation as a professional full-time salaried fire fighter, or status as a former professional full-time salaried fire fighter with ten years of service. Applicants for new plates must also complete an SP 41 Application.

Documentation includes the following:

• An identification card issued by the Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada
• An identification card issued by the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association.
• An identification card issued by a professional fire fighter or chiefs organization or association from any other jurisdiction
• A letter certifying the applicant’s current or former employment as a professional full-time salaried fire fighter, which letter must be from:
  • The Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada
  • The Nevada Fire Chiefs Association
  • A professional fire fighter or chiefs organization or association from any other jurisdiction
  • The chief officer of a federal or state agency, the duties of which involve the prevention and suppression of fires, including the Bureau of Land Management and the Nevada Division of Forestry

You must show the documentation at each annual renewal through 2023. You may renew in person or include a copy with a mailed renewal.

As of January 1, 2024, documentation will not be required for renewal. Firefighter plates may be renewed online, at a kiosk or by mail. (AB 304)

$25 of the initial fee and $20 of the annual renewal supports volunteer training by the State Fire Marshal as directed by the Nevada State Firefighters Association.

Volunteer Firefighter Qualifications

You must show reasonable proof of identity and proof of current service as a volunteer fire fighter, or status as a former volunteer fire fighter who retired from service as a volunteer fire fighter within this state after completing at least 10 years of active service. Applicants must complete an SP 62 Application.

Documentation includes the following:

• An identification card which indicates that the applicant currently serves as a Nevada volunteer fire fighter.
• A letter from the chief officer of a volunteer or combination Nevada fire department certifying the applicant’s current or former service as a volunteer fire fighter.

Volunteer and combination departments must be recognized as such by the Nevada State Fire Marshal.

Volunteer Firefighter plates may be renewed online, at a kiosk or by mail.
