Required Documents for all ID
You must present all of the following:
- Proof of Identity (one document) and
- Proof of All Name Changes (if applicable) and
- Proof of Social Security Number (one document) and
- Two Proofs of Nevada Residential Address (e.g., utility bill, lease) and
- DMV Approved Translation(s) for any non-English documents
Documents: All documents must be valid originals or certified copies.
Address Requirements by Card Type
- Real ID cards must show your physical address
- Standard and DAC cards may show physical or mailing address

Proof of Identity - Present One Document
You must present one of the following valid, unexpired documents:
- U.S. Passport or Passport Card
- U.S. Birth Certificate (original or certified copy)
- Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240)
- Certificate of Naturalization (N-550)
- Certificate of Citizenship (N-560)
- Permanent Resident Card (I-551)
- Foreign Passport with:
- I-94 stamped “Processed for I-551”
- OR valid U.S. Visa and I-94
- Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
Documents Not Accepted:
- Hospital-issued birth certificates
- U.S. driver's licenses or ID cards that do not meet Real ID standards
- Military ID cards
- Foreign driver's licenses or ID cards
- Foreign birth certificates
- Border crossing cards
- Consular Identification cards
Many of these are acceptable for a Driver Authorization Card.
Licenses and ID cards will be marked "Limited Term" when immigration documents are used to prove identity.
Proof of Name Change (If Needed)
If Not, Bring Documents Showing All Name Changes:
- Marriage certificate (government-issued)
- Divorce decree
- Adoption records
- Court order
Accepted Name Docs: Social Security cards are not accepted as proof of name change. The DMV will use the name exactly as listed on your documents.
Multiple Name Changes?
- You must present proof of each change (e.g., multiple marriage certificates or court orders).
- Divorce decrees must clearly reference your former name before marriage.
If Your Spouse Has Passed Away:
You may revert to your previous middle and last names. You must present both:
- The marriage certificate, and
- The death certificate (names must match on both)
Proof of Social Security Number - Present One Document
- Social Security Card
- W-2 Form
- IRS Form 1099
- Printed Pay Stub
Legal Name & SSN Required: Documents must list your current legal name and the complete Social Security number.

Proof of Nevada Residency - Present TWO Documents
You must present two of the following documents which show your name and Nevada residential address. Original printouts from online accounts are accepted.
Original or Certified Copy Dated Within 60 Days
- Rent or lease receipt
- Lease agreement with your name
- Utility bill (gas, electric, water, etc.)
- Bank or credit card statement
- Employment check stub
- Court document
- Bill or payment request
- Nevada school record or student ID with address
- Hotel/Motel/RV park/campground record (30+ days stay)
- Voter registration card (NRS 293.517)
- Public assistance benefit letter
- Military Leave & Earnings Statement (for deployed service members)
- Notarized statement from a Nevada resident confirming you live there
Original or Certified Copy Dated Within 60 Days
- Car insurance card, binder, or bill
- Medical bill or provider record
- Tax records (excluding property tax)
- Property tax record
- Mortgage or deed of trust
- Confidential Address Program (CAP) documents (NRS 217.462–471)
What to Present:
- DD-214 or other evidence of honorable discharge
- Visit archives.gov to obtain a copy of your DD-214
Fees:
- $0 if added during another license/ID transaction
- $8.50 for non-commercial license/ID only
- $12.50 for commercial license only
Standard Nevada License or ID Card
Not for federal identification purposes.
Standard Nevada License or ID Card
A standard Nevada license does not meet Real ID requirements. It is marked "Not for Real ID Purpose."
Proof of Identity - Present One Document
- Valid Real ID driver’s license, instruction permit, or ID card from another state
- Non-Real ID licenses/IDs are not accepted
- Limited Term” Real IDs are not accepted; you’ll need immigration documents
- Valid, unexpired United States Passport or Passport Card
- Valid Enhanced Driver's License from a U.S. state
- U.S. state-issued birth certificate (original or certified copy)
- Nevada Department of Corrections Identification Card
- Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe ID Card (Pyramid Lake tribe only)
- Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240)
- Certificate of Naturalization (N-550)
- Certificate of Citizenship (N-560)
- Permanent Resident Card (I-551)
- If expired, must also present Notice of Action (I-797) showing approved extension.
- Valid foreign passport with I-94 stamped "Processed for I-551"
- Unexpired Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
- Valid Foreign Passport with unexpired U.S. Visa and I-94 form
- If I-94 expired, must present Notice of Action (I-797).

Driving privileges only - not valid for identification
Driver Authorization Card
A Driver Authorization Card is marked "NOT VALID FOR ID."
Option 1: Proof of Identity - Present One Document
You must present one of the following valid, unexpired documents:
- Real ID driver’s license, permit, or ID from another U.S. state

- Expired cards must be accompanied by Notice of Action (I-797)
- The old pink “Resident Alien Card” with no expiration is also accepted

- OR valid U.S. Visa and I-94 (plus I-797 if I-94 is expired)
- Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
Option 2: One of These Documents
- U.S. Military Identification Card

- DD-214
- Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe ID Card (tribe members only)
Option 3: Two of These Documents
- Driver’s license or ID card from another U.S. state, D.C., or U.S. territory
- Driver Authorization Card from another U.S. state, D.C., or U.S. territory
- Foreign passport
- Foreign birth certificate
- Consular ID card
- Other foreign government-issued document

Translation Must Include
- A typed or electronically printed full translation
- A complete and accurate translation — no summaries or abstracts
- A signed statement from a DMV-approved translator
Required Translator Statement:
"I, [translator’s full legal name], certify that the foregoing is a complete and accurate translation from [foreign language] to the English language to the best of my ability. I further certify that I am fully competent to translate from [foreign language] into the English language and that I am proficient in both languages. DMV Approved Translator Number: ________________"

Birth, Marriage, or Other Vital Records
- Contact the Vital Statistics Office in the state or county where the document was issued
- Visit the National Center for Health Statistics for a full list
- You can also use vitalchek.com or a similar commercial service
Social Security Card
- You may be able to order a replacement online through your My Social Security account
- If not, visit the SSA website to see what Documents you’ll need
Non-U.S. Citizens – License & ID Eligibility
Nevada does not issue licenses or ID cards to tourists. Other non-U.S. citizens may be eligible depending on immigration status.
Eligible for Real ID or Standard ID?
If you have U.S.-issued immigration documents, you may qualify for:
- Real ID or
- Standard License/ID
These will be marked: “Limited Term”
Driver Authorization Card (DAC)
If you don’t qualify for a Real ID or Standard ID, you may be eligible for a DAC, which:
- Is valid for driving only
- Is not valid for identification
Additional Documents May Be Required
- I-20 (for students)
- DS-2019 (for exchange visitors)
- Other valid immigration documents
No Social Security Number Yet?
If you’ve applied for but haven’t received a Social Security number: You may attest to this on your application — no proof required.
Testing Requirements
- Knowledge and skills tests may be waived
- Applies to applicants age 21 and older
Document Requirments: Additional documentation may still be required based on your specific situation.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, you must:
- Be 21 or older
- Hold a valid Class B Taiwan Driver’s License
- Present a Verification Certificate of Driver’s License from a Taiwan Consulate Office
- If not in English, it must be translated by the consulate or a DMV-approved Translator
- (DMV 015) Complete the Drive Test Waiver for Taiwan Nationals (PDF).
Additional Requirements
You must still:
- Pass the vision test
- Pass the knowledge test
- Provide Proof of Identity and Proof of Nevada Residency
Nevada Residency Laws
Licenses are not issued to visitors. However, active duty military members, their spouses, and dependents living temporarily in Nevada are not required to transfer their license or registration.
Who Is Considered a Nevada Resident?
(Per NRS 482.103 & 483.141)
A person is considered a Nevada
resident if they:
- Legally reside in Nevada
- Operate a business and maintain vehicles in Nevada
- Live and work in Nevada (trade, profession, or employment)
- Declare Nevada residency to gain privileges not offered to nonresidents

- Out-of-state students
- Border state employees
- Seasonal residents
