Electronic Evidence of Insurance

Nevada allows motorists to present Evidence of Liability Insurance on a printed card or mobile device. Legal Reference: See NRS 690B.023 and NRS 484A.650 for complete details.

  • Mobile Device Display Allowed: Motorists can display insurance evidence on mobile devices
  • Printed Card Still Available: Insurers must provide printed cards upon request
  • Privacy Protection: Officers may only view insurance evidence, not other device content
  • Device Liability: Motorist assumes all liability for any damage to the device when presenting it

Essential Tips for Insurance Agents

Follow these best practices to help your customers maintain compliance

  • Match Names Accurately: At least one of the named insureds on the policy must appear on the vehicle registration. If a vehicle is registered only to an additional driver, the system will trigger a registration lapse.
  • Verify the VIN: Always review the physical vehicle registration when writing a policy to ensure both the name and VIN match exactly.
  • Encourage Address Updates: Remind your customers to officially update their address with the DMV as soon as they move.
  • Confirm Continuous Coverage: Agents can confirm continuous coverage on behalf of their customers by using the Coverage Affidavit found in the forms section below.
  • Digital Cards are Legal: Nevada law allows motorists to present their Evidence of Liability Insurance on mobile devices during DMV visits or traffic stops.

Classic Vehicle Insurance

Vehicles registered with Classic Vehicle, Classic Rod, or Old Timer license plates must carry specific classic/antique vehicle insurance that meets Nevada’s minimum liability requirements. New laws passed under Assembly Bill 349

Requirements

  • Proof Required: Owners must submit their insurance policy Declarations Page at their next renewal or when they first obtain the plates. This proves the policy is specifically designated for a classic/antique vehicle.
  • Usage Restrictions: The vehicle cannot be used for general transportation, driven more than 5,000 miles per year, or used for any commercial purposes. It may only be driven for club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, or basic maintenance.
  • Emissions Exemption: Vehicles meeting these guidelines are exempt from smog checks if the owner completes the Odometer Certification Form (EC 018).

Important: Plate swaps and original classic plate orders must be done in person at a DMV office. If a vehicle does not meet these strict requirements, the owner must switch to a standard plate style and pass a standard emissions test.
