CLASSIC VEHICLE SPECIAL LICENSE PLATES RENEWAL NOW ONLINE

Eliminates need for an office visit, opens more availability

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced today that Classic Vehicle, Old Timer, and Classic Rod license plates will now be eligible for online renewal via the MyDMV portal.

“This enhancement is a big milestone for the DMV,” said DMV Director Tonya Laney. “With more plates being eligible for online renewals, we are giving our customers what they have requested, opening up more appointments for those who need an in-person visit.”

Current holders of this plate will still be required to maintain continued insurance coverage that meets the requirements of NRS 485.185 (all owners of motor vehicles registered in Nevada must maintain liability insurance) as provided in NRS 482.381 (Nevada residents can obtain special license plates and registration for antique vehicles), NRS 482.3814 (Nevada residents can obtain special license plates and registration for vehicles that participate in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, rather than general transportation) and NRS 482.3816 (Nevada residents can obtain special plates and registration for vehicles that were manufactured at least 25 years before the application date and that contain only original parts or replacement parts that duplicate the original). These vehicles cannot exceed more than 5,000 miles driven per year.

“We are excited that our customers with this plate now get the option of online renewals,” said Laney. “This is exactly what we are trying to push – people going online versus making a trip to an office.”
