DMV Metro Offices Extending Business Hours During Election Period

No Appointment Needed for Those Seeking Voter Registration

CARSON CITY – The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will be offering extended business hours to accommodate customers needing voter registration to vote in this year’s election.

Two weeks prior to Election Day, from Monday, October 21, 2024, through Saturday, November 2, 2024, customers may come into the DMV’s metro offices as a walk-in customer to be assisted from 8:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday. No appointment will be necessary during this timeframe.

In addition, on Monday November 4, 2024, and Tuesday, November 5, 2024 (Election Day), DMV metro offices will be open extended hours from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. to assist customers needing voter registration to be able to vote.

"Our goal is to help every legal voter who wishes to participate in the election," said Director Tonya Laney. "We extended our hours last election cycle and it seemed to work out extremely well.”

Nevadans who hold a valid driver's license, ID card or even an interim document issued at the DMV have several options for voter registration. The DMV, Secretary of State and County Clerks operate an Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) system in accordance with a ballot initiative approved by voters in 2018 and the subsequent enabling legislation and regulations. The DMV does not register voters or maintain voter registration rolls, it submits voter registration data to the Secretary of State and the County Clerks. Read more on AVR here.

The Silver State also offers same-day registration, which allows all legal voters with a license or ID to register in-person on Election Day and at any time during the two-week early voting period ending on November 1.

New residents who wish to take advantage of the DMV's special hours should come ready to transfer their out-of-state license or ID and their vehicle registration if needed. See the New Resident Guide for details on license and registration requirements. Customers can have vehicle identification number inspections completed in advance without an appointment.

Existing Nevada residents who need to update their address can do so online at dmv.nv.gov or by bringing proof of address change to the polls when they vote. They will not be accepted as a walk-in customer.

More information on who can vote, and how, is available on the Nevada Secretary of State’s website at nvsos.gov.
