DMV URGES CUSTOMERS TO UPDATE THEIR ADDRESS WHEN MOVING

Change on both driver license and registration to avoid returned mail

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is reminding customers to update their address on both their driver’s license and vehicle registration records. Maintaining accurate information helps reduce returned mail and ensures timely delivery of renewal notices and other important updates.

“It is highly important that customers are updating their address on both sets of documents when they change their address with the DMV,” says Director Tonya Laney. “This is the responsibility of our customers and updating one record does not automatically update the other. I am pleased to say, however, that through modernization efforts, the agency is currently working on a way for customers to update all records at once in one fell-swoop.”

Accurate address information is critical to ensuring customers receive timely updates that may affect their driving privileges, vehicle registration status, and compliance with state requirements. Even small changes, such as apartment numbers, street name updates, or recent moves, can prevent important notices and documents from being delivered.

Customers may review and update both their driver’s license and registration addresses through MyDMV. The process requires only a few minutes and helps prevent missed deadlines, late fees, or registration lapses.

“Over half of all mail returned to the DMV is due to incorrect addresses,” Laney added. “Keeping address information current across all DMV records is one of the simplest ways to receive your documents and avoid any unnecessary complications.”
