DMV COMPLIANCE ENFORCEMENT WINS INTERNATIONAL AWARD

Agency recognized for fraud prevention and investigations

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is proud to announce its Compliance Enforcement Division (CED) has recently earned multiple accolades at the 2025 American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) awards ceremony, making CED one of the top-performing public safety agencies in fraud detection and prevention.

The AAMVA awards program honors member agencies and individuals throughout the United States and Canada who demonstrate excellence in motor vehicle administration, law enforcement and highway safety. This year’s program drew more than 400 submissions in 23 categories.

CED received the following awards:

  • Fraud Prevention and Detection: NMVTIS Enforcement, Nevada DMV CED Stolen Vehicle Recovery Program – International
    • Using NMVTIS, CED created the Stolen Vehicle Recovery Program, which resulted in more than 90 stolen/VIN-switched vehicles and more than $3 million in recovered-vehicle values in Nevada.
  • Fraud Prevention and Detection: Investigations Individual, JD Decker – International and Regional
    • o Chief JD Decker and Investigator Mike Giddens responded to a radio call that a woman was trying to escape from a moving vehicle driving over 100 mph. After stopping the vehicle, they found a 17-year-old female beaten with severe ligature marks, bruises and blood. Had they not stopped this vehicle, the victim may have not been alive today.

“Words can’t even describe how exceptionally proud I am of our Compliance Enforcement Division,” said Director Tonya Laney. “Many people don’t even know the DMV has a police department, but trust and believe, our officers are doing amazing work, and these awards are proof of just that.”
