FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

DMV Director Tonya Laney speaks out about the recent statewide network outage

CARSON CITY - I want to start off by thanking my DMV team. This Labor Day weekend looked a little different, as we had all hands on deck, with our leadership, IT and information security teams working around the clock to resume most of our services to the public.

This would not have been possible without the tremendous support of Governor Lombardo and his leadership team, and the Governor’s Technology Office.

Our kiosks and online transactions are again available, while our offices are open for limited services.

Current services we are able to offer can be found on our website at dmv.nv.gov

From there you will click on “online services” in the top banner where announcements are listed, and that will take you to additional drop downs to show what is currently accessible online. This information is also available on our social media channels including Facebook, Instagram and X, but I will run through them quickly:

Motor Carrier

  • Registration and Fuel Tax Filings

Vehicle Transactions

  • Registration renewals
  • New registrations
  • Electronic Dealers Reports of Sale from NV Dealerships
  • Titles Transactions brought in office
  • Disabled placards
  • NVLIVE Insurance Reinstatements

Testing

  • Non-commercial driver's license (NCDL) tests
  • Written testing and NCDL online permit tests
  • Commercial driver's license (CDL) written & skills testing (As usual this is in CDL offices only)

Kiosk Transactions

  • Registration renewals
  • Duplicate registration (decal & registration certificate)
  • Insurance reinstatements
  • Drive history printouts

MyDMV Portal Transactions

  • Registration renewals
  • Driver history reports
  • Vehicle registration cancellation
  • Plate surrender
  • Movement permits

Staff are working through backlogs of missed appointments and trying to call customers so that they can get them back in. These calls are not a scam, but we ask our citizens to still be wary of anyone asking for payment over the phone, or charging any extra or expedited fees.

Any late fees or penalties that would have occurred during the outage window have been programmed in the system to be waived.

We ARE NOT able to offer issuance of any Driver License or ID credentials currently. We do expect to back online for this service on September 5, 2025.

As a reminder, if you are worried about the ability to fly, as you were late to the game getting your Real ID, you can use the same documents you would present at the DMV, with TSA, and they can use that documentation to review your eligibility to fly. We recommend arranging your visit to the airport early, to allow this accommodation to take place.

If you have a valid, unexpired passport or military ID, this can be used in place of the Real ID to fly. TSA also states credentials are honored for 2 years post expiration to fly.

Once we get our credentialing systems reestablished, we will shift our focus at our offices to serving the customers that need identity transactions completed. That means all registrations, registration renewals and titles will be asked to go online or to a kiosk.

In closing, I want to reiterate my thanks to our staff, vendor partners, my fellow agency Directors, and everyone working behind the scenes to do what is possible for our Nevada citizens. I also want to thank our customers for their patience, understanding and support. We see you online helping spread the word and accurate information about this event, and we appreciate you.

I’m proud to see the support and cooperation that has come from this unfortunate situation. And I’m proud to be a Nevadan.

Thank you.
