DON’T WAIT – RENEW YOUR LICENSE OR ID IMMEDIATELY UPON NOTICE

Avoid delays and late fees by renewing online

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) encourages customers to renew their driver's licenses and ID cards immediately upon notice, by email or postcard, to avoid late fees and delays when booking appointments.

“We are seeing a large number of Nevadans visiting our office for driver license and ID transactions, especially with the upcoming Real ID deadline,” said DMV Director Tonya Laney. “Our appointment system merges every driver license and ID transaction into one category, so spots are becoming more limited, which can impact those who are trying to make renewal appointments.”

Notices for driver license and ID card renewals are sent out 30 days before expiration. The quickest way to renew a license or ID is online with a MyDMV account. Most drivers will see this renewal option on their account, unless aged 71 and older, which in this case an office visit will be required to administer an eye exam.

“It is greatly important and highly recommended to book an appointment immediately upon notice to renew your license or ID card,” said Laney. “For those that need an in-person visit, don’t wait. Our appointments get booked rather quickly and waiting even just a day can lead to a late renewal.”

For quick and convenient notices, the DMV advises customers to enroll in electronic notifications with their MyDMV account. Customers can find this option under the “My Account” tab. Please note that only one option for notices can be selected at a time.
