WESTERN NEVADA COLLEGE NOW OFFERING CDL SKILLS TESTS

Eliminates need for students to travel to a DMV office

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has partnered with Western Nevada College (WNC) to offer the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Third Party Certification program to prospective truckers at the Carson City and Fallon campuses.

This initiative now makes it possible for students to take their CDL skills test at the college campuses, saving a trip to the DMV.

“This partnership will undoubtedly benefit both WNC and the DMV,” said DMV Services Manager Wayne Bahmiller. “Now that students are able to take their skills testing onsite at either campus, additional appointments will become more readily available for the public at our CDL offices.”

The program is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, supporting students in Nevada’s growing trucking industry. Students will now have a more efficient path of obtaining their CDL license and entering the workforce quicker.

“This program is extremely beneficial for students that are interested in obtaining their CDL license,” said Public Information Officer Hailey Foster. “More testing locations will hopefully produce more licensed drivers – and becoming a certified truck driver can be an excellent career path.”

Through the WNC CDL course, students can expect to get connected with employers who are eager to hire their graduates.
