CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has expanded its media relations team by adding Public Information Officer James DeHaven to the agency’s Carson City office. DeHaven joined the DMV this week after five years as a state politics reporter at the Reno-Gazette Journal. He previously worked at the San Diego Union-Tribune and the Las Vegas Review-Journal, where he covered City Hall for Nevada’s largest newspaper. Prior to that, he reported on state and local government in Helena, Montana and San Andreas, California. A Dayton, Nevada native, DeHaven is the winner of the 2015 James Foley Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism and a two-time recipient of investigative reporting awards from the Nevada Press Association. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 2012. “I’m very excited to be a part of the team,” DeHaven said. “As a native Nevadan and former newspaper reporter, I think I bring a fresh perspective that will improve how the DMV operates and interacts with the public. He’s most looking forward to aiding the DMV’s ongoing transition into providing most services online. “Personally, I’ve had nothing but positive experiences at the agency’s offices, and I hope to help make sure that’s true for others as well,” DeHaven added. |
